Llangadog - 11/11/17

                                  LLANDYBIE   28   LLANGADOG  10

Llandybie welcomed Llangadog to King George field for their first home game since 9th September. The hosts applied early pressure with good carries by prop Dai Lloyd but Llangadog managed to clear their lines with a punt downfield. The Llandybie defender slipped as he cleared and the kick went straight to the visitors left winger who gratefully scored in the corner after five minutes. It was nip and tuck with both teams fully committed and a good tackle by Merlyn McClelland forced Llangadog back but they cleared to touch. From the lineout hooker Rhys Cann found McClelland and they set up a driving maul on the 22 yard line and rumbled forward with  scrum half Tom Griffith urging them on for prop Matthew Meredith to dive over for a try which flanker Aled Tommason converted. Llangadog were up quickly in defence and from a Llandybie attack, intercepted  a pass to run clear and score another try wide out. Game on.

Llangadog added some pressure with some sharp runs from their outside centre and a dropped pass from the hosts was hacked through with Cann and Meredith chasing back to gather and clear their lines.  From another Llangadog attack, they looked like scoring again but a timely interception by left wing Ben Featherstone saved an almost certain try as they had men over, with the winger gaining 20 meters before being hauled down. A good tackle by Mike Tench yielded a penalty for holding on and Chris Powell put in a long touchfinder with Alex Wigley hurrying the clearance. From the lineout  a sniping run by Tom Griffith taking the tackle  with Aled Tommason picking up and finding a defensive hole to run through and score, also converting to lead 14 -10 at half time.                                                          In the second period the hosts  lost fly half Richard Davies with a groin strain replaced by Rhys Evans. Llandybie exerted more pressure and a storming run by Lyndon Davies found Powell at centre ,he threw a long pass to full back Josh Williams coming at pace and as the cover tackled him threw an inside pass to Rhys Evans in support to score a fine try which Tommason again converted from the touchline. Referee Colin Kirkhouse kept the game flowing, the players having a good explanation for his decisions. Lyndon Davies went on another 40 yard burst but from the ruck the ball was knocked on. Play became scrappy for a time with mistakes from both sides with Dan Brooks tidying up some loose lineout play.  Another Davies run was halted with Llangadog clearing to full back Williams who went up the wing with Evans and Featherstone in support only for the final pass deemed to be forward. Rhydian Jones and Ethan Walters replaced Tench and Meredith and Josh Cranfield came on for Featherstone. Llangadog were tiring and Tybie threw everything forward. Powell picked up a pass from his toes to put right wing Keri Davies away down the middle and he outpaced the cover to score wide out with Tommason keeping his 100% kicking with another fine conversion to complete the scoring at 28 -10 and an important bonus point win.
