New Dock Stars 10/11/18

LLANDYBIE     36      NEW DOCK STARS    7

Llandybie welcomed the Stars to King George playing field, looking for another win to continue their move up the table in recent weeks. From the off Dylan Parry took it to the visitors with a strong carry. The Dock are normally a strong scrummaging side but from the first scrum found themselves going backwards twenty metres with a tremendous shove from the Llandybie eight. The hosts were soon in the visitors twenty two and with good handling from forwards and backs captain Keenan Jones forced his way over for a try converted by Ben Featherstone for an early lead. A lovely cross field move with a certain try for winger Keri Davies but the final pass to him was forward.

Another good drive in the scrum and Dan Ward released centre Connor Thomas using his pace and power to canter in for a try. The game was full on by both sides and two players were binned for a dust up on the half hour. Llandybie continued their good form with excellent handling with Nathaniel Butler bursting away and offloading in the tackle to Featherstone to score a good try which he converted .

New Dock reacted with some good play with driving mauls and pick and go, having a purple patch for a quarter of an hour but the hosts defence held firm with Lyndon Davies and Eirian Williams on top form in the tackle area. Going forward a chip over the top by Alex Wigley was a try if Rhys Evans boot had connected with the defence nowhere to be seen. The hosts held the lead till half time.

A fast start to the second half by Llandybie had New Dock scrambling in defence. Fielding a kick ahead from the dock winger Keri Davies made a terrific run swerving to the outside and flicking a pass behind his back to second row Tim Williams in support, he drove forward and passed inside to Dylan Parry to score but the referee deemed there had been crossing and disallowed the try. From a good drive in the scrum Ward found Davies coming into the line and Rhys Evans burst through to find Butler on his shoulder to run in from twenty yards again Featherstone converted with Llandybie leading   26 - 0 . New Dock exerted some pressure to finally get a score by Jordan Evans converted by Matthew Jones. Young Jordan Tommason, just out of youth had a fine game at openside prop for the hosts and Dan Brooks found his jumpers well in the lineout. Another fine driving scrum forced Dock to kick but Ben Featherstone fielded and came across field with Butler , Evans and Davies putting Connor Thomas away for his second try. Full back Wayne Williams, back to his home turf went on a jinking run beating four players and finding Butler in support to score his second try and the host’s sixth on the day. Llandybie’s best performance of the season playing some very good running rugby based on a good performance by front eight.
