Betws 12/10/19

                         LLANDYBIE     17        BETWS    20

Fielding their youngest team for a number of years Llandybie took on local neighbours Betws in this West 3 B clash. The hosts got off to a poor start conceding an early try scored by Mathew Madge.  The conditions worsened and both sides handling was poor with a number of dropped passes. Llandybie’s Lyndon Davies carried well but Betws had done their homework and doubled up with their tackles. With a number of back players missing Llandybie had young Kieran Williams at scrum half, Tom Howells on wing and Nathan Thomas at full back, just out of youth.

Llandybie kept up some sustained pressure and fly half Tom Griffith put Connor Thomas through the centre with a short pass and he galloped clear to score converted by Ben Featherstone. The hosts pack was getting the better of the Betws eight with Jordan Tommason and Dan Brooks working hard in the tackle area. The hosts gained a penalty converted by Featherstone and Betws replied with half time arriving with Llandybie leading 10  -  8.

Betws played the conditions better in the second period , from a Llandybie penalty that failed to find touch broke clear to score a try from Mathew Madge and another soon after with pick and go tactics, again by Mathew Madge to complete his hat trick. Tom Griffith kept Llandybie in the hunt with well placed kicks for position and Leighton Rees put the ball downfield to pressure Betws. Kieran Williams at scrum half had a good match for the hosts and in the last ten minutes the hosts kept up the pressure in the scrums with Betws taking it down continually with the referee giving a penalty try. Llandybie ran out of time in another close encounter and the referee handled the game extremely well in poor conditions. Next Saturday Llandybie are away to Cefneithin.
