Amman United - 8/9/2018

AMMAN UTD    18     LLANDYBIE  6

Llandybie travelled to Amman still struggling to field their strongest side with a number of players playing out of position.

The hosts started with a bang and effectively won the tie in the first seven minutes when they scored two tries from Sean Mangan and Steffan Rees with Rees converting one to lead 12 – 0. Llandybie rallied with the power of their scrum causing Amman problems, gaining two penalties with Lee Davies converting one.  The Amman prop was yellow carded for collapsing the scrum and Llandybie were camped in the Amman half for twenty minutes turning down a kickable penalty but with all the pressure came away with nothing. Amman cleared their lines to full back Rob Smith who beat the two chasing players to make thirty yards and from the ruck Lyndon Davies powered forward with Amman infringeing again and Llandybie putting the ball to touch. Keenan Jones ,Dai Lloyd and Dan Brooks kept the Eight of LLandybie going forward but the backs made nothing of the pressure. HT  12 – 3.

Amman turned up the pressure early in the second half and Steffan Rees increased their lead with a penalty but missed another. Llandybie turned up the power with a driving scrum and Lee Davies converted the ensueing penalty. Mike Tench and Nathaniel Butler were in the middle of the action, but both sides backs were guilty of knocking on  especially from the high ball. Rhys Evans made some good ground in attack and Keri Davies cleaned up some poor ball to keep the visitors going forward. Steff Rees knocked over another penalty to lead  18 – 6. Llandybie gained another penalty and should have kicked for position hoping to gain a try to possibly gain a losing bonus point. Amman deserved the win but it was a poor second half. Llandybie need to find a magic formula to get their back line moving and start scoring tries. The pack did well but did not sustain the pressure for long enough. They are away to Penlan next Saturday in the SWALEC BOWL.
