Bynea 1/12/2018

 LLANDYBIE   17     BYNEA   0

Match report by Charles Cann

A strong Bynea side were Llandybie’s opponents on Saturday. The early exchanges were nip and tuck with Llandybie pushing forward and a big hit from Lyndon Davies yielded a penalty which Llandybie ran but made a bit of a mess of it by crossing in the backs.

Bynea made good use of their strong pack with a strong wind behind but Llandybie’s defensive line held firm. Bynea had a player binned for punching Tim Williams and Llandybie tried to put the ball wide. Matthew Lloyd and Connor Thomas at centre made a number of telling tackles but the hosts often kicked the ball away poorly against the wind.

James Tommason ruled the lineout often stealing the Bynea throw. Props Keenan Jones and Dai Lloyd made some good carries and the back row of Davies, Nathaniel Butler and Eirian Williams were solid in defence.

Bynea had the better of the half territorially but gave away a penalty just on half time for not releasing and Ben Featherstone struck it well to give the hosts a three point lead at half time.

Featherstone missed a penalty from half way early in the second half, falling well short. A strong tackle from Butler yielded a penalty which Alex Wigley  put to touch. From the line out Dan Brooks found Tommason feeding Butler who set off round the blind side to dive over but the linesman signalled a foot in touch.

Next came a bit of luck for the hosts when a kick ahead was , Bynea felt knocked on, but the referee felt it had gone forward off the players shins and Alex Wigley threw the ball wide to full back Josh Williams into the line to release winger Josh Lewis who outpaced his opposite number to score a good try, with Featherstone adding the extras from out wide.  Llandybie kept up the pressure and from another line out drive released scrum half Leighton Rees to score, Featherstone again kicking the conversion.

Bynea applied pressure near the end but the hosts defensive unit was on top form. Four wins on the bounce for Llandybie who play in Betws next week.
