Llandeilo 5/1/2019

                        LLANDEILO  14    LLANDYBIE   24

Llandybie travelled to Llandeilo for this local derby with a big crowd expected.                              Llandeilo gave away a penalty from the kick off and Llandybie turned down the kick and kicked to touch. Dan Brooks found James Tommason in the line out and the forwards set up a driving maul for Brooks to dive over after two minutes. From open play Tommasonbroke clear but the referee deemed there had been crossing. Shaun Davies found a good touch on the visitors twenty two but the throw was stolen and Rhys Evans found a good touch for Llandybie. Llandeilo has three penalties in succession, one was short ,another wide but Owain Roberts finally found his range to kick the third.

From a scrum on the fifteen metre line  Matthew Lloydpopped a short pass to Nathaniel Butler who scored without a hand laid on him.Ben Featherstone added the extras. From the restart number eight Lyndon Davies charged through the Llandeilo back line, offloading to the supporting Matthew Rees, with James Tommason on his shoulder to canter thirty yards to score. Featherstone in explicably missed the conversion from in front.  Llandeilo made a concerted effort to rally but the visitors defence was sound. A harsh yellow card for Eirian Williams added to the pressure, with carries from Bobby Jones, Rob Hughes and flanker Ceri Davies making the visitors defence work hard. Eventually the extra man told and scrum half Rhys Rickman  sneaked in from ten metres to score   Half time was    8  - 17 to Llandybie.

Llandeilo came at the visitors in the second period and had two penalties for offside which Roberts converted to come within three points. Llandybie lost captain Keenan Jones, a rock in the scrum with a twisted ankle and centre Rhys Evans with a head injury and introduced Ethan Walters and Dai Lloyd and also stalwart Merlyn McClelland for his first game of the season. This gave the visitors added momentum and from a scrum in the twenty two the ball went right to man of the match Butler at pace to sidestep his way through the Llandeilo defence for his second try converted by Ben Featherstone for the bonus point. Leighton Rees came on at scrum half to add some extra nous to the back line.

Llandybie were getting frustrated with  the number of free kicks and penalties given against them with two more yellow cards whilst a stranglehold tackle on McClelland warranted only a penalty. Llandeilo came on strong in the last quarter but the LLandybie defence with players short was unyielding with Connor Thomas having covered three positions and the coach was full of praise for the defensive effort again this week.  Final score was  14 – 24. Next week Llandybie are home to Llangadog.
